Goldsaft is all-natural sugar beet syrup that Grafschafter produces from freshly harvested sugar beet – of course without any chemical additives. It is created solely through the thickening of the beet juice, which we squeeze out of cooked beet pulp.

About *Sugar Beet Syrup*

Where does sugar beet syrup come from?

In the 18th century, sugar cane was an expensive commodity and very few could afford it. In 1747, however, the chemist Andreas Sigismund Margraf made the discovery that beets, which were otherwise used as fodder, contained a lot of sugar. A few years later, Franz Carl Achard succeeded in growing the white-skinned turnip, which had the highest sugar content of all beets. In 1801 the first sugar beet factory was opened and the first sugar beet syrup was produced. Particularly interesting: Sugar beet syrup does not fall under the EU jam regulation, but under German food law and is therefore one of the fruit products!

Is sugar beet syrup healthy?

Sugar beet syrup is characterized by its healthy nutrients. The syrup is rich in folic acid, magnesium and potassium. In fact, it is also a good supplier of iron and helps to meet the daily requirement of minerals and trace elements. Compared to conventional sugar, the sugar substitute has better nutritional values and is therefore healthy! Similar to agave syrup, you can notice a light malt to caramel note in sugar beet syrup.
