About Messmer
Messmer – a formerly independent tea trading company – is now a brand of the Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft.
The company has its origins in a delicatessen and grocery store that was founded on September 21, 1852 by Eduard Meßmer in Baden-Baden. Messmer soon became the purveyor to the court of Wilhelm of Prussia and his wife Augusta, who for many years were guests at his father Johann Friedrich Baptist Messmer’s hotel, the Hotel Messmer. In 1886 Messmer was able to open a branch in Frankfurt am Main, which was managed by his son Otto Messmer (1858-1940). In 1895, Otto Messmer had the Messmer Tee trademark protected.
In 1990 the company Ed. Messmer GmbH & Co., Frankfurt am Main and Grettstadt, was taken over by the East Frisian Tea Company Laurens Spethmann GmbH & Co. KG from Seevetal. The current range of the Messmer brand includes 46 types of tea or tea blends, which are sold both loosely and in double-chamber tea bags.
