After Eight is the well-known dark chocolate combined with the taste of fresh peppermint. The wafer-thin After Eight chocolate slices are individually packed.
The development of After Eight was inspired by an English tradition: “After Dinner”, peppermint lozenges are often served in order to benefit from the effects of mint on digestion and to maintain a fresh taste in the mouth. The time is usually after 8 o’clock in the evening (“After Eight”), which is what the name is based on.
After Eight was first introduced to the UK market in 1962 by Rowntree’s. A few years later, After Eight was also available in Germany. In 1988 Nestlé acquired the company, including the rights to After Eight.
